The Ultimate Guide to Kinktober

What is Kinktober?
Kinktober is an annual month-long event, originally popularized on sites Archive of Our Own (AO3) and Tumblr. This event has been held every October since 2016 and is dedicated to celebrating the wonderful world of kink.
Similar to the more safe-for-work (sfw) InkTober or the not-safe-for-work (nsfw), Hypnovember, a prompt list is created where artists, writers, and other kink enthusiasts can generate content related to the day’s word. There is a different prompt for each day of the month, totaling at least 31 prompts. Depending on the prompt list used, there may be multiple kinks to choose from for each day, providing kink enthusiasts with more flexibility in what they want to focus on.
Although the event is typically focused on in October, many content creators continue to post about it after the month. Despite the existence of an “official” prompt lists throughout the years, some creators have made their own for people to use, allowing writers to find different kinks they want to create art for.
Who Participates in Kinktober?
Although KinkTober is an event geared towards artists, anyone can participate. I have seen a variety of participants over the years, from writers to professional dommes, the possibilities are endless. As long as you are having fun and are being safe, then you can participate in Kinktober too!
How to Participate in Kinktober?
Before you begin your journey into Kinktober, you will need to find a prompt list that works for you. There are a variety of prompt lists to choose from, some being more “official” than others, but at the end of the day, it is what you want to engage in. A list of various prompt lists can be found at the bottom of this blog. If you don’t find a prompt list you like, don’t be afraid to create your own. This is your journey, so there’s no need to feel pressured to choose a list with prompts you don’t enjoy.
When creating your own prompts, you can choose from a variety of kinks; however, if you are unsure of where to start, you can refer to the Periodic Table of Kink created by UberKinky. This table presents various kinks to get your juices flowing, helping you create your own list. Once you have a list, you can proceed to creating content. You don’t need to be an artist to start creating content; you can post your thoughts and/or opinions on certain kinks or even create educational content, like I am doing here. Remember, this event is open to everyone, so have fun!

How to Find Kinktober Content?
People participate in Kinktober on various platforms. For content focused on writing, the best sites to find work are Tumblr and the Archive of Our Own. For a more diverse range of content, including videos, photos, and art, X (formerly known as Twitter), DeviantArt, and Blusky may be your best option. If you are looking for content specifically geared towards subcultures such as furries, you can browse sites such as Furaffinity. If memes or short-form videos are your thing, then TikTok may be the best site for you. If you are unsure which site to use, a simple internet search would also be helpful. Again, there is no right or wrong way to participate.
After determining the site you want to use, you can search for content using various hashtags such as #kinktober or by searching the word kinktober or similar words in the search bar, depending on the site you are using. For content geared towards the current year, simply add the year to your search (e.g., #Kinktober2025). Searching for specific kinks, especially ones on a prompt list, can also be helpful for finding content (e.g., Orgasm control).
Whether you are an artist or passive enjoyer, a veteran of the community, or just joining, KinkTober is for everyone. Remember to have fun, embrace curiosity, and if you are, stay kinky!
